RAJ Capital was founded in 2006 by siblings Alex Bhathal and Lisa Bhathal Merage, rooted in their family's swimwear business, RAJ Swim, established in 1967. Partnering with Swander Pace Capital and Goldman Sachs, RAJ Capital's first investment was the acquisition of RAJ Swim, which has since become a stalwart in the swimwear industry, successfully adapting to industry changes for over six decades.
In 2013, the Bhathal family became principal co-owners of the Sacramento Kings NBA franchise, with Raj Bhathal serving as Vice Chairman and Alternate Governor with Alex Bhathal on the Executive Board and Real Estate Committee. Ownership’s vision was to leverage the Kings brand to revitalize downtown Sacramento, a goal that has been realized with remarkable speed and impact.
In 2018, RAJ Capital launched the Revitate investment platform to scale its activities in the sports ecosystem and real estate, driven by a commitment to social and economic impact. The first strategy focused on investing in Opportunity Zones, federally sanctioned tracts of historically lower-income areas.
Today, Revitate offers a full suite of investment opportunities designed to leverage RAJ Capital’s expertise and experience. In 2024, Revitate’s Opportunity Zone strategy achieved a significant milestone, investing into $1.5 billion of new developments since 2018. The firm also invests in workforce housing in the Midwest through its partnership with Cherry Tree Capital Partners and in the sports ecosystem via its partnership with RX3 Growth Partners, co-founded by NFL star Aaron Rodgers.
In 2024, Alex and Lisa led the acquisitions of the Portland Thorns (NWSL) and the WNBA Portland expansion team, marking a milestone for the city of Portland and positioning it as the epicenter of growth in women’s sports.
Approaching its 20 year anniversary, RAJ Capital continues to evolve and grow. We invite the next generation of leaders to join us in shaping a brighter future through innovation and impact.
